J.D. Smith, age 85, of Clarksville, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017, at his residence. 

J.D. was born August 12, 1932, in Cumberland City, TN, to the late Grover C. Smith and Grace Duncan Smith. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Miller and Geary Smith; and three sisters, Thelma Dowdy, Eloise Lyle, and Mary Richardson. 

He was a US Army veteran, having served in Korea. Mr. Smith was the former owner of the Smith Tailor Shop, Air Assault Store. J.D. was a member of the 89th Masonic Lodge, Clarksville Scottish Rites, and Al-Menah Shriners for over 50 years. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, December 12, at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Rev. B.J. Brack and Rev. Ken Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 12, from 10:00 AM until the hour of service, at the funeral home. 

J.D. is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha Jean Rosson Smith; nephews, Glenn Miller, Stanley Miller, Ronald Miller, Butch Abernathy, Barry Rosson, Mark Abernathy, David Abernathy, and Chris Abernathy; and one niece; several other nieces and nephews; business associate, Carmen Kirby; and special friend, Teddy McGovern. 

J.D. would be honored that those serving as pallbearers are Butch Abernathy, Mark Abernathy, David Abernathy, Chris Abernathy, Wayne Price, Mark Baggett, Neil Baggett, and Luke Baine. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Rosson, Teddy McGovern, and Ray Bates. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 110 Conn Terrace, Lexington, KY 40508.
