Jennie B. Christian Swift, of Clarksville, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, at her residence.

Jennie was born in Atlanta, GA, to the late James Archie Christian and Elizabeth Bentley Christian. She was also preceded in death by five siblings, Archie Christian, Harold Christian, James Christian, Lillian Wilbanks, and Mary Ramsey.

Jennie worked in the advertising business in Atlanta, and for a couple of years for the Fleming, Rudolph, Ross & Fendley law firm upon moving to Clarksville with her husband in 1987. She was a long-time volunteer for Loaves and Fishes. Mrs. Swift was a board member for Progressive Directions for many years and worked early voting and election days for 25 years. She adopted Clarksville and made this her home for 30 years. Jennie was a graduate of Leadership Clarksville. She was a member of Madison Street United Methodist Church and the Pastors Class. Being an Atlanta native, she was a lifelong Georgia Tech fan.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, April 14, at 4:00 PM, at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Rev. Cliff Wright officiating. Visitation will be Friday, April 14, from 12:00 PM until the hour of service, at the funeral home.

Jennie is survived by her husband of 41 years, Richard H. Swift; children, Melanie Y. Fincher of Cartersville, GA, Leslie E. (Libby) Hathaway of Clarksville, and Lisa M. Swift of Jonesboro, GA; two grandchildren, Liz Fincher and Reid Fincher; two nieces whom she always thought of as sisters, Barbara Wilbanks Harris and Betty Wilbanks Hembree; and brothers-in-law, Bruce D. Swift and Charles Phillip Swift.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Cunningham, Rudy Johnson, Carl Wilson, Wayne Wilkinson, Price Hopson, Doug Weiland, Walter Haynes, Jimmy Dunn, Dwight Luton, Mike Evans, Jeff Burkhart, and David Chesney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AseraCare Hospice, 1539-C Ashland City Road, Clarksville, TN 37040; or to Madison Street United Methodist Church, 319 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.

The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to Tammy Coffman, RN, and April Towe of AseraCare. Thanks to Jackie Adams and Nancy Moreau, Rev. Laurie Hynson, and all the many folks who have called, visited, and brought food, comfort, and friendship.
