Tribute

Buford Joe Evans, age 91, of Clarksville, died Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

He was born February 7, 1927 in Montgomery Country TN, the youngest of five children of Walter C. Evans and Maggie Weakley Evans. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Wilson Evans; brother, Gordon Evans; and three sisters, Ella Evans, Grace Evans Tur­rentine and Margie Evans Langford.

Always a dapper dresser, he was voted “best dressed” as a senior at Clarksville High School. He was an Army veteran, serving in WWII, then studying at Austin Peay, prior to a 60-plus year career as an accountant, first with Goodrich and then Vulcan Rubber in Clarksville, retiring at age 82. He was married to the love of his life and his best friend and travel companion Wanda, for 50 years, until her death in 2009.

Joe was active in the community, serving as a charter member and president of the Hilldale Kiwanis Club, was a member of Sango Methodist Church, and then for the last 30 years Madison Street United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Willard Blue Sunday School Class.  He loved traveling the world, enjoyed playing and watching tennis, and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include three sons, Dr. William E. Evans (Mary Violet) of Memphis, TN, Michael J. Evans (Mary Michael) of Clarksville, and Philip Vann Evans of Clarksville; five grandchildren, Leslie Evans Cherry, Kelli Evans Eberly, Dr. Gina Evans Frazier, Michael Wilson Evans, and Ashley Evans Bryant; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, July 18, at 10:00 AM, at Madison Street United Methodist Church, with Rev. Harriet Bryan officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at Neal-Tarpley-Parch­man Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Wil Evans, Jeremy Cherry, James Eberly, Jo’el Bryant, Landon Brake, and Jason Davies. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Willard Blue Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Madison Street United Methodist Church, 319 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
