Dominick D. Azzara, 76, died Sunday, April 14, 2024, at his Sango home of 37 years. Regina, his beloved wife of 47 years, provided tender care and attention until his passing. 

He was born Sept. 6, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY, the second of 12 children to the late Joseph and Agnes Azzara. From a young age Dominick became closely involved with the Boy Scouts of America and as an altar server at his childhood parish, St. Brendan’s Catholic Church.

Dominick was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1965 and served his country honorably for five years. When he was honorably discharged in 1970, he settled permanently in Clarksville. He attended Austin Peay State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology. In 1976 Dom met Regina and the two married in 1977. Throughout their marriage they were seldom apart for more than a few days at a time.       

In 1999, Dominick completed the Diocese of Nashville’s Diaconate Formation Program and was installed as a deacon at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarksville. Over the next quarter century he would minister to thousands of families administering baptisms, witnessing marriages and officiating funerals. He also served as the Director of Religious Education at Immaculate Conception for 20 years. He was Diocesan Spiritual Director of the Legion of Mary. 

An Eagle Scout, Dominick remained active in scouting for much of his adult life, serving as camp director for 10 years at Boxwell Reservation on Old Hickory Lake.  

Dominick is survived by wife Regina, three sons, Nicholas (wife Tiffany), Jonathan and Luke; two grandsons, Andrew and Matthew; siblings Marie Azzara Sass (husband Stephen), Joe Azzara, Ernest Azzara, Timothy Azzara, Jean Azzara Pirrotta (Rick), Agnes Azzara Brooks (Steven), Margaret Bannan, Alyssa Azzara, Veronica Azzara and Patricia Azzara Samuelian (Frank). 

Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (ICC) from 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, followed by a vigil service and the Rosary at 7 p.m. Fr. Jacob Dio will officiate. 

A funeral liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18 at ICC, with Fr. John Patrick Day officiating, assisted by deacons Tim Winters and Rock Hasenberg. 

Dominick will be buried at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Joelton, TN with Fr. Edwige Carré officiating. 

Pallbearers will be his sons, his brother-in-law Fred Wirrick, and family friends Aaron Dean and Stuart Telford. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus.
