Joe A. "Pappy" Winn

Joe A. "Pappy" Winn, age 101, of Clarksville, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021, at his residence.

Joe was born December 21, 1919, in Clarksville, TN, to the late Joe S. Winn and Lu Allen Winn. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Link Bourne Winn.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Bean Winn; four children, Lou (Ellis) Burns, Ann (Rick Harris) Winn, Joan Winn Phifer, and Joe (Janet) Winn; two stepchildren, Terri (Eddie) Sanders and Sandy (Danny) Grooms; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

Mr. Winn was a retired Chief Petty Officer with the US Navy, having served from 1939 to 1959. He later retired from Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, where he worked at Clarksville High School and the Vo-Tech School. Joe was a farmer and a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church. He was involved in many organizations, including the Fleet Reserve Association, Queen City Masonic Lodge 761 for 70 years, Rizpah Shriners for 50 years, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Royal Order of Jesters, Order of Q, OKET, and multiple Shriner clubs. Joe and Betty were world traveler extraordinaires.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, February 24, at 11:00 AM, at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Rev. Will Binkley officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with a Masonic Service following, and Wednesday, February 24, from 10:00 AM until the hour of service, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Joe Allen Winn III, Robert Tyler Winn, Matthew Link Phifer, Kenneth Pardue, Danny Grooms, and Eddie Sanders.
