John Arthur Hill

John Arthur Hill, age 77, of Clarksville, departed this life Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

John was born January 8, 1945, in Horry County, SC, to the late Johnie Hill and Annie Mae Stewart.

He was educated in the Horry County School System, graduating in 1963 from Whittemore High School. After graduating, he proudly served six years in the US Army, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantrymans Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, he attended Austin Peay State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree and Master of Arts in Education Degree.

John worked from 1975 until 2005 with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System as a Career Ladder teacher and principal, which he enjoyed tremendously. He was a member of several organizations in the Clarksville community, including the Clarksville Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Mr. Hill was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, under Pastor Jerry G. Jerkins, as a trustee.

On June 27, 1967, he married Nancy C. Fykes, and to this union a son was born, John A. Hill, Jr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Williams, Ernest B. Johnson, Harry Johnson, Terry Johnson, and Ernest J. Johnson, Jr.; and sisters, Imor Benning and Rebecca Johnson Judkins.

John leaves to cherish his memory his loving spouse of 54 years, Nancy C. Hill; son, John A. Hill, Jr.; granddaughters, Tiona (John) Ward, Latrisha Hill, Calista Hill, and Porschia Majors; great granddaughters, Charvi and Zhuri Ward; sisters, Ida (Michael) Agee, Vivian (Donald) Moore, Patti Dixon, Verdina (Hubert) Robinson; brothers, Compton (Johnnie) Johnson and Lethorn (Tameka) Johnson; sister-in-law, Martha Winrow; the families of the late Mr. James M. Hatcher and Mr. James R. West, Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, and Friday, July 1, from 10:00 AM until the hour of service, at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home. A Homegoing Celebration will be Friday, July 1, at 12:00 PM, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.
