I was really saddened to read of Mary Jo's passing. To all those whom I have treated, delivered, and employed I give my heart felt condolences. I thought sure she would go on forever and outlive me.
I will really miss her Christmas letter which kept me informed about her family. Never understood how she was ever able to keep everything straight but it was apparently very easy.

Love and condolences to all

My sister Betsy (Rubel Jernigan) and I were so sorry to hear of your mother's death. We had hoped to come to Clarksville yesterday for the funeral, but it did not work out. Mary Jo was always so kind to us and maintained the family connection between Sam and our father (John Rubel). Peace be with you as you remember her life well-lived.
Love, Virginia Rubel Caruso

What can I say about my sweet aunt Mary Jo that has not already been said? A woman whose care and love knew no boundaries, she was always a presence in my life and the lives of my family. I shall miss her only a little less than all of her children, and it will always be a different world without her. My love to all my cousins and their families! I’m sorry I can’t be there to say goodbye in person, but my heart is with you all.

I was shocked and saddened to see of Mrs. Winters’s passing. She was always such a gentle, kind person who truly cared for others. I talked with her a few weeks before Christmas and left, rejoicing that we’d had a few minutes together. I’ll never drive down Greenwood Avenue without being grateful for her sweet spirit yet missing her.

A saint was born December 24,1927 in the Gootee family , being the only child of her wonderful parents who we all called Daddy Joe or “ Pap” and sweet Granny Gootee.
I almost can’t even imagine HOW to write all the good deeds ,almost always she did these way out of the limelight in private where no one would know but the receiver .
That was Aunt Mary Jo , a giver almost to a fault she would take care of everyone and herself last . But that was just her , she was sweet and pure LOVE I Mean PURE LOVE that emanated through SOUL. No matter what she was going through she still smiled.
Even going through the loss of my cousin , their son Johnny , and brother to all of my cousins ( 13 beautiful children ) she kept her faith and her and Uncle Sam got through it together .But they would NEVER ever forget him always on their mind and taught their kids you can get through even the toughest of time with your faith .
So many memories flood back I will have to write a seperate letter for all the wonderful children of Uncle Sam and Aunt Mary Jo .
Love , hugs and prayers to Joe, Jobe, Johnny( RIP) , Anna , Katy, Emily, Tommy, Virginia, Mike , Martha, Jimmy, Chris, Julie , and Barbara and all the grandkids, great grandkids and great grandkid:)

Love

So very sorry for your loss. For many years when I would drive by that big house, I often thought how lucky the wife, mother, grandmother was.And there were times all those lights and all those cars made me feel the warmth and laughter that it held. I always wanted to have such a family. I pray your love and memories help you at such a difficult time.

Mrs. Winters was the epitome of graciousness. She seemed to be unflappable in her role as the quintessential mother and grandmother. I admired her so very much. Her faith and joy radiated from her into all who were in her presence.
Growing up in Clarksville it seemed there was a “Winters kid” close to your age. (I was between Tommy & Virginia.) What a blessing to us all. May God’s peace surround all of her generations.

When I saw Aunt Mary Jo, I do believe I saw Jesus. Her caring and inclusive ways, her giving heart, her enduring faith, her kind and non complaining service to others, her living in the moment with always a listening ear— all will live on through my treasured cousins. Please save me a seat Aunt Mary Jo! The remembrance of you will make this heartfelt time bearable. Love, Diane

My condolences to all of Mary Jo's family and friends. I only met her on a couple of occasions but she and Sam welcomed me into their home and were gracious beyond any words. It is so rare that a family has a matriarch who is so beloved by all who's path she crossed. Thoughts and prayers to all of you at this difficult time. Be comforted in the beautiful life that she lived and the love that she had for all of you. God Bless.
