Jim was born October 14, 1928, in Greensboro, NC the only child of Charles and Lessie Hall who predecease him.  He was married to the love of his life, Wanda Ezell Hall, for 61 years until her death in 2010. He is survived by his son, Ronald Hall of Old Town, FL and daughter, Pamela Hall Rowlette of Hendersonville, TN.  He was preceded in death by daughter Sandra Lawrence, Evansville, IN. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Norma Lawrence, Elizabeth Lawrence Childers (Grant), James Hall II, Stephen Hall (Ashley), Jennifer Hall Frost, Lindsey Hall Williams (Chad) and 12 great grandchildren.

Though an only child, Jim was raised in a large extended family with many aunts, uncles and cousins as playmates and companions. He is survived by two aunts, Mrs. Tommie Carter of Reidsville, NC and Mrs. Doris Hall of McLeansville, NC.

Jim enlisted in the US Army at the age of 17. He retired after 22 years of active duty at Ft. Campbell, KY having served in Japan, Korea, Germany and many stateside assignments.

Although he served in many duty stations and capacities, his fondest memories and best stories were from his days as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne where he made many lifelong friends. He remained active in the 11th Airborne Association until it disbanded.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hunting and especially fishing with Wanda. He loved his animals and looked forward to his reunion with beloved dogs Mickey and Maggie and cat Juliet who are waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge.

In recent years, Jim faced many health challenges and spent his last year at the TN Veterans Home. Many thanks to the staff, especially in House Six, who provided such excellent care and true compassion. Special recognition and thanks are extended to his caretaker, Frances Shumaker, who made it possible for him to remain in his home for the three years before he entered skilled care.

Full military honors will be rendered. Honorary pallbearers will be survivors of the 11th Airborne Division.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to your local Humane Society or Wounded Warrior Project, 223 Rosa L Parks Avenue, Suite 301, Nashville, TN 37203.
